A brief Backstory

(Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) has provided a safe space and support for refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants for over 20 years. Gloucestershire has a proud tradition of welcoming people who arrive in need of shelter and safety. The drop-in centre at GARAS offers some respite from the hardship and difficulty of the asylum-seeking process. Essentials like food and blankets are provided and counselling and therapy are available for people who have suffered loss, trauma and abuse. Above all, people are treated with dignity and compassion.

GARAS also plays a vital role in educating people about the real stories of why and how people seek asylum.  Earlier this year an exhibition at Gloucester Cathedral: ‘Let There Be Light’ celebrated the work of GARAS.
