As the example of Gloucester demonstrates, links to the slave trade and visible legacies can be traced at the local as well as the national level. These are often complex and bitterly contested, but they challenge the simplistic idea that slavery was something that happened somewhere far away a long time ago. This documentary examines how the monuments and heritage of Gloucester allow us to trace these hidden legacies, but also to promote a more sensitive appreciation of the past in the present day. Screening followed by a Q&A, and a small reception including two exhibits by history students.
