For 300 years, a 1575 book of the poems of the Roman poet Horace, that was owned and used by William Shakespeare, was kept at Frampton Court. This is the first time that a book from Shakespeare’s library has been identified, and it is a fascinating insight on how Shakespeare used these poems in his writings. The story of the book too is incredible, populated with characters such as Richard Clutterbuck, who in 1731, trimmed and washed the book so many of the most interesting annotations are visible today only under ultra violet light. A must for both Shakespeare and local history fans.
