GLOUCESTERSHIRE AFTERNOON

Built in 1666, Gloucester’s great organ has brought music to the cathedral and the city for more than 350 years and is undergoing restoration ready for next year’s Three Choirs Festival. Join us to explore the organ’s history, its inauguration and the music it’s played. Learn about its place in Gloucester’s story in a momentous year as the nation faced the plague and the Great Fire of London. Cathedral Organist Jonathan Hope, Oxford Professor of Music Suzanne Aspden, tenor and Head Voicer at Nicholson’s organ builders James Atherton and historian of 17th century Gloucester Andrew Pitt share its extraordinary tale. Chaired by Vernon Harwood.

In partnership with Gloucester Cathedral.
