A filmed talk by Rose Hewlett, University of Bristol
Rose Hewlett’s talk showcases the wealth of family and local history information contained in her new book, The Gloucestershire Court of Sewers, 1583-1642. The court held jurisdiction over the sea defences and land drainage systems on the county’s low-lying coastal areas, the Gloucestershire Levels. These nationally significant records underpin Rose’s doctoral thesis on the great Severn Estuary flood of 1607. They are published by the Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society.
