Event Details

September 2020 sees the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower. Leading historian Stephen Tomkins tells the story of the illegal underground movement of Protestant separatists from Elizabeth I’s Church of England and their journey to America.

A story of subterfuge and danger, arrests and interrogations, prison and executions from exile in the Netherlands to, finally, the New World. ‘Stephen Tomkins conveys the sweep of Reformation history through the hair-raising and often tragic stories of the men and women who suffered or survived it.’ (Dr. John Sentamu, Archbishop of York). In conversation with Pamela Armstrong.
