Event Details

If you loved BBC2’s A House Through Time then join us for Gloucester’s very own Street Through Time delving into the pulsing heart of Gloucester’s history by travelling down one remarkable road through the ages from Roman times to today.

For over 1000 years Westgate Street has been the principal street of the city of Gloucester, the site of the city’s market and the main route into South Wales. City archaeologist Andrew Armstrong tells the extraordinary story of the creation of Westgate Street, its Roman, Saxon and medieval buildings, what we know and what remains mysterious. A brand-new talk based on new research and written specially for the Gloucester History Festival.

In the coming months many buildings on Westgate will be subject to further research, conservation and restoration as part of a Historic England funded project.
