From his first meeting with President Brezhnev in Moscow in 1977, former foreign secretary, member of Gang of Four and leader of SDP, David Owen was fascinated by Britain’s relationship with Russia.  From George Canning’s time as Foreign Secretary to the impact of Communism on the 20th Century politics and Russia’s war with Ukraine, he offers a unique perspective on the ebb and flow of two hundred years of British-Russian relations which in recent times he has described as ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’.  He explores the increasingly complicated relationship between Russia, Britain and the West – past and present.
