Discover a medieval treasure

The Gloucester Candlestick is a unique masterpiece of English metalwork. Made for St Peter’s Abbey (later Gloucester Cathedral), between 1107 and 1113, it comes from a key turning point between cultures in England at the time. It straddles the divide between the Anglo Saxon and the Norman eras. Join Dr Janina Ramirez as she reveals the candlestick’s fascinating place in art history. Learn more about this beautiful object from the frontier between Anglo Saxon and Norman, and between heaven and hell.

We look forward to welcoming you to this event. Please be reassured that Gloucester Cathedral is a large and airy building allowing lots of space for everyone to enjoy their time here safely. The Cathedral is a Covid secure building and we continue to have additional cleaning routines in place and hand sanitiser is available for visitors. We support the wearing of face coverings for those that would like to do so.

For this very special evening with Dr Janina Ramirez we are able to accommodate physically distanced seating for those that would like it.
