‘Illuminated Fragments’ contains a range of artworks exhibited in the Henry Dene Hall, inspired by Llanthony Secunda’s archaeology and illuminated manuscripts.
In January a series of workshops took place as part of Llanthony Secunda’s Re-Formation project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The idea was to create artwork that combined Llanthony’s medieval illuminated manuscripts, and the archaeological objects found during the Re-Formation project restoration work.
The ‘Illuminated Fragments’ workshops were attended by 15 local amateur artists. Together, with Cotswold Archaeology, they went to see some of Llanthony Secunda’s archaeological objects. They also learned and practised calligraphy with Josie Brown, as they developed their ideas for their artwork. Local artist Jacqui Grange led the workshops and has curated the finished artworks in this beautiful exhibition.
Contact details of visitors will be collected at Llanthony Secunda Priory as part of the Track and Trace system. If you are visiting on Sunday 6 September, you can help reduce the queues and gain quick entry by booking your free ticket in advance here.
