Roman temples, ancient burial grounds, hidden gold? Rumours abound about what’s been discovered under the Cotswold escarpment between Cirencester and Gloucester as Oxford Cotswold Archaeology delve beneath the route of the new A417 ‘missing link’ road between Birdlip and Brimpsfield. The dig carried out on behalf of National Highways and Kier Group, covers over 350,000 square metres and features have been identified from over 12,000 years of human occupation.

Now the excavations are complete, Alex Thomson, leading archaeologist and dig Project Manager, shares the exciting discoveries for the first time, exploring how our ancestors have used this part of the Cotswolds since the Stone Age.
