William Marshall was described by the then archbishop of Canterbury as the greatest knight who ever lived. He was certainly a remarkable warrior, but also a great statesman. He served four kings and ruled England as regent.

As Sheriff of Gloucester, he had Henry III crowned in Gloucester Cathedral and reinstated Magna Carta, but arguably this influence on history was even greater as warden of the Forest of Dean.
