Event Details

From his first meeting with President Brezhnev in Moscow in 1977, former Foreign Secretary, member of the Gang of Four and leader of the SDP, Lord David Owen was fascinated by Britain’s relationship with Russia. From George Canning’s time as Foreign Secretary and the Great Game to the impact of communism on 20th century politics and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he offers an unique perspective on the ebb and flow of two hundred years of British-Russian relationships which in recent times he describes as ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’. He joins us to discuss the complicated relationship between Russia, Britain and the West – past and present.
